What would happen if you were to put Alkali in water?

Ok, I checked some websites on Google. I learned that Alkali is a way to desribe base metals like Lithium, Sodium and Potassium. If you go to the link below, they show what happens when you put these metals into water. The Potassium and water one makes fire!
