Geologists in Alaska are monitoring the rumblings at Mt. Redoubt, a volcano about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage. The volcano has had some spectacular eruptions in the past, including a big blow in 1989. Click here for more details. Create your own Sarah Palin joke in your head.
Reading an update on Mt. Redoubt today, there's a run at Alaskan auto parts stores on car air filters. It seems that dust and ash from eruptions clog up air filters pretty quick. Here's another link to other interesting problems a volcano eruption can cause on everyday life, particularly air travel.
Some of the fine particles in an eruption are silicon(sand). After Mt St. Helena erupted many cars had their e gines ruined by the volcanic ash.
