The study's results appear in Circulation, the journal for the American Heart Association.
I hope all the businesses that complained about losing customers due to the implementation of the smoking ban now realize that we have 17% more people walking around today who can be potential continuing customers thanks to the smoking ban.
Since smoking bans are being put in place this should encourage people to stop smoking. Most smoking bans were put in areas where heart disease was found. Now because of the bans there has been a decline in heart disease.
Smoking is extremely harmful and increases the risk of many chronic disease. But smoking bans have reduced heart disease to lower rates. This is a positive sign and more stricter laws can reduce the risk further.
