Doctors create beating heart tissue from stem cells

Doctors in Israel have created beating heart tissue from stem cells. However, some commenters at this medical blog are underwhelmed.

Huh, it's cool, if it's all on the up-and-up.

Another embryonic stem cell story posted today: "Stem cells nurture damaged spine: study". If I were a Lou Gherig's disease (ALS) sufferer, I'd definitely be sitting up (no insensitivity intended!) and taking notice.

But, just like the heart tissue study, this one seems to be published in a less-prestigious journal and hyped mostly by company press releases...
