A powerful earthquake (magnitude 7.9) hit near the Pacific island of Samoa this afternoon. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has issued a warning for the Samoa Islands, New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, and other Pacific islands as far away as Hawaii.
Still no reports of damage or injuries, but the quake generated a 10' tsunami in the immediate area.
It first registered on the Seismofon down here on the 3rd floor of the museum as a 7.9 magnitude quake. But I see in the story they've upgraded it to a 8.0 magnitude quake. Either way, that's huge.
oh no!!! Fiji is being affected? Who is going to produce my Fiji water now??
so cool
