Fear: Help of Hurt?

At the Science Museum of Minnesota right now there is an exhibit on Fear going on. I was wondering what people thought about having fear. Do you think we would be better off without it?

I personally have had some really good and bad fear experiences. I mean, I've had fear save my life and keep me away from a dangerous situation. I've also had plenty of unreasonable fear that did nothing but stress me out. However, without fear, I think I would have crashed my car driving too fast long ago as a teenager. Overall I guess fear is a good thing.

I say fear, for the most part, is good. Alcohol consumption will lower people's fear inhibitions and I know a lot of stupid things that have been done without that fear brake being there to slow people down.

I agree with Bryan and Thor. For the most part fear is a good thing - it can even be fun sometimes. Think about roller coasters and other amusement park rides, or even scary movies. These things make us afraid and trigger specific reactions in our brains and bodies. WIthout fear these things wouldn't work the same way.
