President Bush has ordered the Pentagon to come up with a plan to shoot down with a missile the disabled spy satellite that's predicted to crash to Earth early next month. In making the decision, the president cited need to protect Earthlings from toxic chemicals that could burst loose if the school-bus sized satellite would crash in a populated area. But I also know there were concerns raised when this condition of the satellite was first reported, that national secrets could be compromised if the satellite crashes in enemy territory.
This is one of those situations where I guess we just have to beleive what they tell us about the oh so descriptively names satellite USA 193. Forgive me for being cynical but I imagine that their primary objective is protecting all the secret technology on the spy satellite. Next they are probably worrying about the health issues. According to the government the satellite could uncontrollably release a chemical called hyrdrazine if not shot down. If that's true then they do have a good point. Hyrdrizine is a chemical used in all sorts of processes and I am not sure how it is used on the satellite. It is a nasty chemical when it come in contact with people, doing all kinds of yucky stuff you wouldn't want to be responsible for.
This will be the first time that a tactical missile has shot down a satellite if it works. I am very curious to see how this all goes.
After a little further reading it looks like the hydrazine is acting as a fuel on this satellite.
Heavens Above is a great resource for tracking satelites and the International Space Station in the night sky. They have a great resource page on the spy satellite USA 193. You can track its position and get updates on the news about the missile strike.
i heard something on the radio today about this. its sposed to be goin on right now i think....its 9:30 here. i know they are using a naval.........thing? but id like to know specifically what our boats have that can shoot into space
BOOYAKASHA!
i would shoot it down. I say that because it might be like 28 weeks later when every one gets infected and turns into zombies. Like flinch i hers that they were using a naval weaponry to shoot it down a around 9 ish......I want to know if they are using a nuke or what?
They definitely didn't use a nuclear warhead. A modest conventional explosive was sufficient. Now we just need to wait and see if they were on target enough to rupture the Hydrazine tank.
I think they will shoot at it at 9:30 pm CST, near Hawaii when the lunar eclipse is darkest. Read more about this at Watts Up With That
