Students from the University of Minnesota, along with 10 other colleges and universities and two elementary schools launched high altitude balloons into near space today as part of a project coordinated by Stratostar Systems and Taylor University that is attempting to use a constellation of balloons to establish a temporary telecommunications network over the region.
