Two of the brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter, appear very close together tonight. Tomorrow night (Dec 1) they will be joined by the crescent moon around 6 pm (CDT) to make an "unhappy face".
"This is set to be the best planetary gathering of the year, simply because it involves three of the brightest objects in the sky after the sun," said Geza Gyuk, director of astronomy at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. National Geographic.
It's 20.30 Western Australian standard time and we're looking at a "happy face" at about 30deg above the Western horizon.(Fremantle-lat 31.95S Long. 115.861W )This answers our question as to how you would see this in the North(and if you could see it at all)Weathers finally starting to warm up and it looks like some giant happy alien looking down on us.
Hope they're all like that.Don't worry, were in recession too but "gas" is down from $6.75 to $4.50 a gallon.
At least we get the happy face.
Here is another link to info about Venus and Jupiter with the moon. The crescent moon appears to "smile" unless the planets are viewed as eyes with the mouth beneath. Then it is a sad mouth, eehh?
I was wrong. You do have a smiley face in Australia. Here is a photo of the moon and planets from the BBC.
