Will Yellowstone blow its top?

There have been an unusual number of earthquakes of moderate strength in the Yellowstone National Park since Friday. Scientists are keeping an eye on the geologically active area. You can watch along with the live Yellowstone earthquake map.

Oh, and my colleague Bruce Wyman pointed out that the Discovery Channel has a great interactive feature explaining why the hot spot that lives under Yellow Stone could be so very dangerous.

It's pretty amazing that the features (geothermal energy under its surface) that make Yellowstone such a unique place are also the features that can destroy it. I think Yellowstone has gone through three such cataclysmic events in the past and has ended up being new and improved every time.
