From the loud chants coming from students for their favorite sports athletes in 1883, to the high extent of the first Liberty (stunt) in 1976. Cheer leading has went from loud chants to extreme stunts, which has increased the risk of injury. The increased risk for injury has came from the change in activity being done in cheer leading, because now they are starting to use more gymnastic like stunts which require a trained & stunt certified coaches. Without that the injury rates continue to increase.Cheer leading is the most dangerous female sport. The injuries range from fractures, broken bones, paralysis, & even sometimes death. It only takes one mistake to change someones life, so why not prevent it by taking every precaution to ensure safety & maintain all physical abilities. This teenage cheerleader suffered the pain due to the mistake of her teammates.I think there should be a regulation that prohibits bending the rules & regulations for cheer leading stunts because some coaches tend to bend them & that's how people get hurt. There should be rule that there needs to be more than two spotters because anything can happen.I personally stand by those who say cheer leading is more dangerous than football. Where do you stand? How is cheer leading a part of physics?Would you EVER take that risk of being thrown in the air?cheer or no cheer?
Several years ago when I was covering high school sports for a newspaper, we reported on how more schools in Minnesota are dropping cheerleading as an activity, not because it's dangerous, but because more girls are choosing to play in sports rather than stand on sidelines and cheer for them.
hold on we do not just sit on the sideline & cheer we actually have to engage in activities such stunts. We have to do more than just cheer.
so are you saying cheerleading is not a sport?
clearly,a sport is an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition. so there for cheer leading is a sport. & you are putting in physical energy to create these cheers & routines.
i may not know enough of the specs on cheerleading, but umm, wasn't there suppose to be someone to catch that gal, or that throw is terrible, the girl wasn't even in good position; they just threw her backwards. and yes, they definitely need gymnastic certified coaches. otherwise please stick to routines where all feet are on the floor at all times.
thats the point too much physical energy put in to routines.& over extension of cheers causes injury due to mistakes & misconceptions.
What's the science-angle here? For Science Buzz all our stories should have a science story and I'm not seeing it here. I'm seeing the possible connection, but not an actual one?
this article is tied in with physical science because it is a sport & too much physical exertion results in accidents & many different injuries.
i am a cheerleader , and i have to say it is a sport. we compete in competiton's and "play" against other school's to win. cheerleading is more dangerous then half the otehr sport's out there. i'm 14 and i already have to wrap my wrist and ankle's so they don't get injured and my flyer get's thrown up in the air and could die if we don't catch her. what football player could say that? cheerleading is a sport and it's one of the most dangerous ones out there!
yea cheerleading is dangerous but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be cheerleading cause almost all sports are dangerous and you do just have to take the risk.
nobody was saying that there shouldn't be cheer leading.
That was funny... ahaha!! but it's sorry for the girl she hurt her back and she fell..... but it is funny ahahaha :))
