Coffee saves lives!

Researchers have discovered that coffee and tea may reduce the risk of liver damage in certain people. The study found that those who drank more than two cups of coffee or tea per day developed chronic liver disease at half the normal rate.

It seems the caffeine in the drinks helps protect the liver in people who drink too much alcohol, are overweight or have too much iron in the blood. It does NOT protect against viral diseases of the liver, nor does it seem to benefit people who don't suffer from these conditions.

Hmm. This sort of science is always so hard to have a firm opinion on. I mean since I don't drink alcohol, am not overweight, or have too much iron in my blood, is coffee bad for me? No, I think. But then again there is probably some other study that says different. All in the pursuit of knowledge I guess.

The article does say that this research might pertain mostly to people who are prone to liver disease. Well, that makes sense.

Researchers at the Radiological Society of North America presented a study yesterday that shows caffeine has a positive effect on both short-term memory and reaction times.
