I've heard a radio news show that talks about women who are interested in science. But not many jobs are being open to them. Many jobs that are science, like teaching science at college are given to men. Women who had been given chances to have a job that involves science, either doesn't do it because of family issues, like taking care of the kids and doing house chores. So they have to let go off their job.
women are good scientist and we have been pushed back and pushed back by men our whole lives and I think that if more women can become scientists then more women can become astronautes or famouse soccer players or olympic gold winners. women need to be heard for once!
It's cool to have you guys (women) thinking about this subject. A good friend of mine is getting a Ph.D. right now and is running into similar problems. She is very interested in pedagogy (a fancy word for teaching). However, since she is a woman she feels the need to emphasize her research work andd de-emphasize her teaching to succeed in her department. She feels that there is a prevailing attitude that, "of course a woman would be interested in teaching, that's just women's nature." As a result her rather innovative work in teaching isn't seen as innovative because she is simply behaving within a current stereotype about women.
I think these social issues drive a good deal more of the discussion around science than we really consider.
Women should have the right to be teaching in science. Why not? I think it's cool for two different gender to be teaching science. Women should have a right to be teaching what field they like. Taking a job as cleaning and watching kids might be very boring to them and they might want to explore different kind of jobs out their.
