Want to live 200 years?

Scientists have found a small molecule that can be used to extend the lifespan of mammalian cells. The research reported in the July issue of Nature Chemical Biology showed that the synthetic organic molecule CGK733 blocks the machinery that senses DNA damage. They found that CGK733 could extend the lifetime of cultured cells by about 20 doublings and could actually rescue cells that were already senescent. Senescent cells are cells that can stay alive but have stopped dividing.

Magnetic nano probe used to see drug interactions inside living cells

Prof. Kim Tae-kook at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and his associates developed a technology dubbed MAGIC, short for magnetism-based interactive capture. This state-of-the-art magnetic nano-probe technology uses fluorescent materials to check whether any drug can mix with targeted proteins inside the cell.

Yea but then you have to suffer to watch every one you love die in some way. the potion can't cure that.

I agree. If you lived forever, you would have to watch everyone else die and you would be stuck on earth! and you would never go to heaven and meet your real father (god).

So this discovery was made by Korean scientists. Wasn't it Korean scientists who claimed to have cloned a human embryo? I am not convinced that such a discovery has actually been made.

If i keeps you young, I would take it. But, if it just keeps you alive, you would keep on aging, and aging getting weaker, and weaker, being in pain all the time!

It is BS that it can be used a fountain of youth... it inhibits DNA damage repair, which would cause incredible amounts of cancer and other diseases. Korean science is indeed a joke when compared to american science.

You're going to have to back your statements up a bit more than that. I hardly think you can cast a wide claim around all Korean science because of your problems with this one issue.

your statement is very impulsive and arrogant. How can you say such thing. The Korean scientiests did not claim it's the fountain of youth, though it could have such an powerful results. Those scients are still working. Now working on animal and after their success, it will go on human trial which is several years away. Your attitude is alarming.

This chemical is not an immortality potion. It my be useful for short term recovery and improved damage repair but remember that what it does is increase cellular life span, and then only 20-25%. this means that as the DNA in the cell accumulates damage from normal wear and tear that damage is passed on to the cells that it produces so that the younger cells that it produces after is has continued reproducing after its normal expiration will start with more than average damage. the individual cells may live slightly longer but the damage passed on as a result would cause the larger organism to age more quickly. The way that our bodies stay young is by replacing the worn and aged parts with new and younger parts, making the older parts keep going after they are damaged and worn is only practical for short term applications.
The Korean scientists have made a very useful discovery but for a multicelular Organism long term use could be dangerous, especially for the third generation after long ter exposure where DNA damage would lead to birth defects and mutation.
