My boss is from the east coast and he started talking about what a 'regular coffee' was there vs. the midwest. On the east coast, regular means two creme, two sugar. Regular coffee here is black coffee.
I'm from the East Coast, and I love getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts because of the cream, but I hate getting coffee at Dunkin Donuts because of the sugar. Doesn't matter, though: I'll take either option over black coffee!
Dunkin Donuts has delicious coffee.
4. I don't usually drink coffee, but when I do I like to taste it so I prefer it black.

I started out tough, drinking it as thick, black and crunchy as possible - thanks camping! Now I've settled in to a more manageable mixture of dark roasted tar and milder stuff. I think I'm toeing the line of coffee snob.

One respondent from the East Coast thought that drinking coffee with LOTS of cream was an East Coast thing, and that people in the Midwest seem more likely to drink coffee black or with just a little bit of cream. I'd never heard this regional generalization before and found it interesting.
I drink coffee black only when I'm on a road trip with my husband. I'll share sips from his thermos of black coffee then, and I associate the bitter taste with travel and companionship. Otherwise, I drink coffee with 2 percent milk at home, and with half-and-half at coffee shops.

Alright early risers, here's
question 2: Have you ever fasted, not eaten for a day?
Answers: Yes, No, Sort of- I tried but didn't make it
and please explain your answers (health, religious, other reasons.)
Nice work on question 1, I will tally the responses we've had so far and get back to you later in the day. Any other coffee responses are still welcome.
The Day's Question: Have you ever fasted, not eaten for a day?
Your Answer: Never even tried. Food is too awesome, and I know my willpower is seriously lacking.
Friends and Family Tally: Neither the 5 year old or the 1 year old I asked have fasted for a day. I'm not sure the 1 year old understood the question though, so can't be 100% sure. Though I think I can say he has eaten every day of his life...

Alright early risers, here's question 2: Have you ever fasted, not eaten for a day?
Answers: Yes, No, Sort of- I tried but didn't make it
My answer: I don't think so. When I was a Mornon, we fasted once a month, but only for two meals.
Friends and family tally: 2 yeses, 5 no's.
Fully half the people asked replied "well, not intentionally, but I got busy/couldn't afford food when I was younger/forgot to eat."
No one in my survey fasted for religious reasons.
I'm in agreement with whoever said can we have separate threads or something for each question? This format is confusing!
Is there a simpler view of these questions? This page is confusing.
Mostcurious, I am working on a solution to this... it may take some time to see any serious changes but for the time being, I am putting

Question #2: Have you ever fasted for a day?
Me: Yes. More than a day. And frequently. But not really on purpose. When I lived alone, it was easy to get caught up in doing other things more enjoyable than cooking just for myself, and if you ignore being hungry long enough, it kind of passes. I kind of rely on others for cues about eating; thank goodness I'm surrounded by mostly healthy eaters!
I got 5 responses, and everyone had fasted. Three were mostly inadvertent fasters like me. One had been doing diets and cleanses and now looks back on that period as a time of disordered eating overall. And one said, "Good Friday, anyone?"
no i like food too much
question 2: Have you ever fasted, not eaten for a day?
Answer: No.
I have fasted for medical reasons and in the distant past for religious reasons. I have also undertaken limited diet fasts for health reasons.
Hold on! One more response to question #1: how much do you like black coffee?
Your Answer: Not at all. Cream, and lots of it, or no coffee at all, please.
Friends and Family Tally: 14 responses; four people said 1; four people said 2; three people said 3; one person said 4; and three people said 5.
Any Comments from You or Others: Strong opinions, on all counts. My favorites, though: "Black coffee? What is that, other than the step between brewing the coffee and adding the cream and sugar?" and "I like my coffee and beer like my women: dark and bitter."
Nov 2nd: Fasting
Me: Yes, I fasted with a friend for Ramadan. I also sometimes fast before getting on an international flight as airline travel (landing specifically) can make me feel ill.
Coworkers: Yes, I work part time in a Jewish synagogue. There are 3 or 4 fast days a year, the big one being Yom Kipur, so everyone fasts at least once a year. There is also a fast day to commemorate the destruction of a temple, and another the day before passover where only the first born child fasts.
Have I ever fasted for a day?
Yes.
I fasted once for a diet program.
Deb, don't forget to ask friends and coworkers. Do you have any predictions of your yes/no count for this one?
For the coffee response, I, personally, am a 4. Out of my coworkers I have 1-4, 2-5s, 1-3, and 1-2.
For the fasting response:
I have one no response and 3 yes responses. One "yes" response was due to Ash Wednesday, a religious holiday. Another one was due to forgetting to eat and "starting a diet." The last response was due to childbirth. The child took a day to come out, and no food is provided when you're pushing!
