Making a Minnesota mummy

Clean and ready: water and wine helped to disinfect Nefertweety prior to the start of the mummification process.

Wrinkly Nefertweety

Here's how the bird looks on day 12, dark and starting to wrinkle

Mummies don't have to be ancient relics. And Science Buzz is out to prove it. We're in the process of mummifying a chicken right here next to the King Tut exhibit. Our bird – Nefertweety – was purchased at a grocery store.

We're going to give her the same treatments, as best we can, that mummy makers in ancient Egypt would have applied to dead people and animals to mummify them. Keep tabs on the video and photo updates on Science Buzz to see how our project progresses.
