They're beautiful...
I just don't understand why in every story the wolf is a bad animal... 'the wolf and the 7goats', 'Redcap', '3 little pigs'... And that's why I love junglebook so much....a little kid who's raised by wolves :)

Once I saw a wolf and it got so close to me I could have touched it. I didn't because I didn't know if it would have raibees. it was one of the most exiting moments of my life. i am sad that wolfs have been on the endangered speices list. i think that humans need to stop hunting so many wolfs. Wolfs are a beautiful and important creature to us all even if your scared of them you have to respect them.

Monty says:

I was metal detecting in an old ghost town in Nevada back in the 1970's when I called one in by using my metal detector. Sometimes a metal detector will sound off like a wounded rabbit. I looked up and there he was right on the sky line watching me intently and turning his head back and forth like a dog will when he hears a strange sound. I had a half beagle and half cocker spaniel dog with me named Hero. I walked over to my dog and pointed his nose at the Wolf and before I knew what I had done my dog was off to meet the wolf. Well I thought "Oh no what have I done my little dog will be eaten by that wolf sure as shootin". I ran up the old stage road I was on and was huffing and puffing when I got to the top of the big hill. I couldn't see hide nor hair of my little dog or the wolf and figured the wolf had grabbed him and carried him off. I kept hollaring for my Hero and then pretty soon I see his tail up above the sagebrush wagging as he came to meet me. I guess that wolf just took off for the tall timber not wanting to have nothing to do with my dog or me. I have been a hunter and outdoorsman for many years and know it was a Wolf and not a Coyote. It was the first I had ever seen out in the wilds and he sure was majestic. This took place just east of Bodie California in Aurora Nevada. A very desolate area back in those days with no one living with in about 10 miles of where I was. I am Metis' meaning part Native American. The wolf is considered the Teacher amoung many tribes. I once had a vision of a wolf running along side of a stream. He stopped and turned his head back to look at me and I felt a conection with him that was very strong. Later in life I became a teacher and now here I am telling you my wolf stories. Life is a circle and it has come full circle I think ho.

Then i hear it getting closer and closer. there was a Gate Behind me , one of those weak chain Link ones. I though about jumping it to get away from what ever was getting closer and closer... But instead i stood there because it was real close now. so i stood there looking into empty ness when a full grown wolf came out and sat but two feet from me. How before i even heard it coming closer i heard it howl, but payed no attention, now that i see what made the noise i didnt know what it think.... after what seemed like ages i walked away. true story.. fence to my back wolf in my face and a path at my side

Hi, I am from the Northern Minnesota Township of Blackberry, when I a kid my family had a wolf as a pet, his name was smokey and was found as a baby in a den after hunters had shot the rest of the pups. We cared for him and fed him and he became our pet. They are very insinctive and very trustworthy when demestocated, they only want to survive just like other animals in the woods. Think of them as population control in the forest, and are they beutiful.

I stood very still for what seemed like forever. I heard another rustle, but this time to my right. I looked over and saw the wolf standing in the clearing. It looked at me, and I looked back. I knew not to run. Finally, it turned and jogged away into the endless woods.

I have four pet wolves all together. I got them all except one from a breeder in Texas. Thor is my first one. He is 58% Timber wolf and 42% German Shepard. Ali is my second one she is 94% Gray wolf and 6% German Shepard. I also have two pups on the way from Texas (with in the week) one is a male cream in color, and the other is his sister, she is a black phase. The males name is Cthulhu, and my females name ( the black phase) is Voodoo. Cthulhu and his sister Voodoo are also 94%, and when I say they are my pets, I don't mean they live in my backyard in a woods. Oh no they are really my pets, as in they live in the house with my husband and I and go to the vet, the whole nine yards.Anyone who wants a wolf as a pet, I suggest getting a wolf dog first! Because if you don't and have no experience with full or extra high content wolves you will end up paying a lot for the animal and just getting rid of it.
They unlike dogs need a lot more attention and can be very very hard to train. Then you have to think about a safe enclosure. My husband and I just bought a house with a nice backyard 80x100, and we plan on putting up a 8 foot high fence with cement on the bottom all the way around it, so they can't dig out from underneath the fence. Next is food. Are you going to be able to feed a wolf the raw meat it needs? That can get very expensive. We feed our wolves raw chicken. Then you also need to think about the people you are living next too. Are you willing to always stay home and be with the pack so they wont howl? Cause wolves when left alone by their owners will howl a lot. Then the vet bills. Will you be willing to take your wolf to a wild life vet? Wild life vets are very hard to find, And can get very expensive. So before anyone decides to just go out and get a wolf as a pet, just keep in mind all of the things I mentioned. If you can ensure all of these thing the go for it.

We got out to see what it was and it turned out it had been a wolf wandering and probably lost. My dad told me to stay in the truck because just recently i had seen my cat get hit by two cars, so i didnt wanna see dead animals. So he told me instead.

I feel honored to be a part of her pack(me being the omega). We spent about an hour together and she continued to kiss and speak to me. I look forward to becoming closer to her and someday be able to get in her zone beyond the fence.

While grouse hunting near the vermillion river in orr mn.a pack of timber wolves treated me to a midnight serenade; the first time in fifty years of outdoor recreating. The next day we spotted a lone wolf near a country road as we scouted new territory. If you ever doubt the allure and grandeur of Minnesota remember that wilderness abounds.

My dad's friend was driving on a path through the woods once, and he found a wolf pup that had a broken leg and broken rib. So, he took it to the vet and asked "so, what kind of dog is this? It looks like a husky." That's when the vet said "this isn't a dog. This is a 6-week old wolf. Probably abandoned or lost. It wouldn't have made it if you didn't find it." So, He took the wolf to his house and raised it till it was healed. When It was old enough, we gav it to a wolf sancuary and they taght it to hunt and then they let it free. A year later, I was outside biking with my friend in the woods on a dirt trail, and I saw him again. It was definitly te exact same wolf that my dad's friend found. The face patterns were exactly the same. He had a diamond shape pattern on his forehead with a black dot under his left eye. I was so suprised so see him after more than a year in the wild. I just thought it was a good story to post.

There used to be wolves, Red Wolves, living happily in and near my trashy, disgusting home state, Florida. No joke. Then some idiot decided this place would be perfect for ugly houses and vacation spots. I live here, born a native, to be in the calm, peaceful woods, not the clear-cut beaches. Red wolves used to flourish in my county, and even dispersed to the Navarre Beach Island. Sadly, there's very few woods left on the island. I recently went to our local zoo, which had obtained several coyotes. But they weren't coyotes. They had broad heads, much more defined colorations, and were larger than most coyotes. The poor things were two female red wolves. It wasn't very hard to figure out why they didn't have a proper heiarchy after I realised what they were.
I pray that they will learn on their own that they have one of my state's most vulnerable mammals in captivity. Until then, I'll hope that they will find some male 'coyotes' ;)

We have a great wolf story and it was a beautiful day on a hike that we went on. When we were walking we came across a sign that said "watch for wolves". After we had saw the sign we were sure to be aware for them. After a few minutes of walking, we came across a big wolf. It seemed that he/she was eating some food that it decided to eat. After some time of examining it we decided that we should move on and continue our hike. I still remember the great experience that we had because I might not have this chance again!

Wolves are magnificent animals and they rarely attack humans. I think they are great and should be protected. Wolves are so uniqu and beautiful. I, having said all that still think that they should be kept wild and not be bred with dogs to get their beauty. That may make a beautiful animal that is not so aggresive but its wrong. Those "hybrids" have a shorter life expectancy and may still have the aggresive nature of wolves. Yes, they are magnificent but no, they are not pets. (sorry for the spelling)

I live in the country and you can hear wolves all the time around here. everynight you can hear them howling. None of them have ever ventured out of the woods that i've known of ,and we've owned pets my entire life who are all outdoor pets. they wander into the woods and always come back out. Wolves mind thier own buisness, as long as you stay out of thier way they'll stay out of yours. in fact i'm pretty sure they go out of thier way to stay out of our way.
Wolves are even more careful then bears. no wolf has ever wandered into our yard. but bears have.

Hey people! I love wolves and am Native American so I respect them greatly. They are my favorite animals and I used to partially live with a pack of captive wolves. They were my "other fmaily" and one of them acted as my "other mother". I got separated from them but they are still in my heart. Since I live in boring, hot florida, there are mostly no wild wolves here. I often get to see them at a place called Shywolf Sanctuary where my friend Nancy owns the private property and charges nothing for private tours of the place. Besides having over 40 wolves and wolf dogs(or hybrids), she also rescues prarie dogs, sugar gliders, and big cats. She lets you go into certain wolf pens and interact with the animals. My favorite wolf is a female name Tiyowan who sized me up and said "I'm the alpha, obey me" when I was in her pen by placing her paws on my shoulders then leaving her mark in the dirt by my feet. Shywolf is an awesome place and if you live in florida and love wolves, I highly reccommend it. I have recently also had the opportunity to obtain a wildlife permit and am getting two(or maybe one) gray wolf pup flown in from a zoo in Rhode Island. I do not know whether or not I will get the pups(or pup) due to the fact that the pregnant female, Rosalinn, has been artificially inseminated(artificially pregnant). Anyway if I do get the pups I will be naming them if its a guy: Fell(from the Sight) or if its a female either: Larka(again from the Sight) or Evelyn. I love wolves and if you want to contact me do it at my Thank you =3

Wolves are absoultey my favoruite animal in the world besides the fact that people misunderstand the animal they are quite amazing creatures. The way they hunt is so effecient and amazing and they way they take care of the pups they are pretty much a family. I got to finally see a wolf after years of waiting and wanting to see one and I got a pretty awesome picture, beside the fact that some lady mistook it for an oversized coyote, dummie, but it was just probably 30 minutes in Banff me and boyfriend stopped to get a picture of a beaver lodge well I got more then that. I got to watch this beautiful animal come out of the woods onto the beaver lodge and snapped my picture best part is the wolf looked right at me and allowed me to take the picture, also got a picture of him peeing and wasn't trying to. But I'd like to think that a wolf on beaver lodge is a pretty priceless picture and a hard one to get. It just makes me sad that people get mad at these animals for hunting for food and wanting to get rid of them for hunting live stock, they aren't the only animal that hunts live stock. It's ashame because we hunt to but no body wants to get of us when we do it. it's not like a wolf can go to a grocery store and by food like come on people. They are only doing what comes natural to them so why don't people just bugger off and leave them be.

Hi everybody, I'm in, Peterborough, England. I think wolves are awe inspiring. As a writer of both serious scientific research and fictional stories, I am never happier than when I'm writing about wolves and wolf behaviour. Recently I was lucky enough to be doing some research in Devon and Cornwall where there are two groups of wolves. One pack is under the care of an animal behaviourist who actually lived wild with wolves for two years. He taught me how to 'meet and greet' by rolling on the ground and making certain kinds of noises. So when I went to see the second pack of wolves, on my own, as I approached the fencing that contains their habitat I rolled down onto the ground and 'spoke' to them the way I'd been taught. The Alpha female and the beta wolf came together and, after having watched my submissive posture and listened to me wimpering, they engaged in a direct eye-to-eye conversation with me and with each other. For about twenty minutes I was transported to another world. It was an intense experience shared with very very intelligent creatures. I shall never forget the feeling that came over me while I was under their spell. I think all wolves should be revered and I think it is evil to harm them. People are talking about releasing wolves back into some wild areas of the UK. I really hope they do it. I hope to travel to visit more wolves in the wild one day too. Anybody who believes that wolves kill for fun or that they are "monsters" needs to do some proper research before making any more uneducated remarks.
Thanks everybody.

Wild wolves pose less of a threat to humans than domestic dogs running in packs. Wolves have learned to steer clear of humans for the most part and, even while they will take livestock, it is usually when other game is scarce. Once they start taking livestock, they find out how easy it is and then you have a problem.

Domestic dogs that are allowed to run free or are abandoned often form packs and they really don't fear people. If they are hungry enough, they'll go after a child. Even if they aren't hungry, it's like a double dare situation. Where one dog alone knows it is wrong to do it, a bunch of dogs will egg each other on. This is why you do not hear of ONE Rottweiler attacking someone. It is always a pair. One knows better. Two can be dangerous.

To the people who have made comments about wolves bieng terrible creatures that kill things and are bloodthirsty ravening creatures that will murder you and every body around you, humans really do that but worse most of the time. we kill chickens and pigs and cows and turkeys and gooses and so many other creatures while tampering with their genetics and abusing them for our own convenience. Most of the time, we don't even use all of their bodies. We MASS MURDER everyday. The wolf kills to eat and live. We kill (most of the time these days) for things even when we already have enough to live. life feeds on death. even if your a vegetarian, you still kill vegetables. Wolves kill to live. like us. you can't blame it for trying to survive. When you eat a chicken, a hamburger, or any other meat, your doing what you say the wolves are doing, only worse. I need to eat, you need to eat, wolves need to eat! If its right for us to kill things and eat them, why isn't it right for wolves to kill them? should they just stop hunting, eating, living and roll over and die? GROW UP!
Living things have always killed and eaten each other!
even plants! Most wolves, (as mentioned before) will not attack anyways unless under the influence of rabies or if they are starving. And anyways, humans have killed wolves before. Why can't they kill us? we make a sport out of killing them! we mass murder them and leave them to rot! and we've done worse! we destroy their habitat, their living space, and pollute it. Imagine wolves coming into YOUR house, ripping the place apart and peeing on your floor, eating all your food, dumping nuclear waste everywhere and hunt you in your own house, hate and fear you because you want to live, and do this to everyone in the world until humans don't exist anymore. ITS THE SAME THING WE DO EVERY DAY!
things don't have to be safe to be beautiful, cool, glorious, noble, wise, or any other thing that wolves are.
think of someone you love or admire. would you hate them because they could possibly hurt you? To all you people who think things like "wolves are blood thirsty, savage, cruel monstrosities that are threats that are going to murder us and all our children, lets all get shotguns and start the genocide of the wolves!" your being blood thirsty, savage, cruel monstrosities by killing things because they need to eat to live! If you took wolves out of the ecosystem, the creatures that wolves prey on (such as deer) would over populate, not have enough of a food source (such as grass) die out, and upset natures balance. Whatever force created this world, God, science, Allah, aliens, Zuess, Amaterasu, evoulution, or any other such force, they intended for wolves to have a role in nature like everything else. We've already upset natures balance enough.
I hope I got my point across.

NOTE: I am not a hippy. I eat meat, and I've littered before. (though I'm trying to help save nature and prevent the eventual death of all life on earth through pollution, lack of rescources, war over rescources, and basically the apocolypse because thats the way we're going with all this stuff that we're doing. AND PLEASE STOP TALKING IN CAPITALS. ITS REALLY ANNOYING.

Wolves are (if the theory of evolution from single celled organisms is true) related to us like all life on earth. They are beautiful creatures that have more of a right to live than many of us.

Go for wolves and all other life anywhere!

I am strongly opposed to wolves. before you move on please consider my point of view. I am a rancher who lives in Idaho where they just turned a bunch of wolves loose from yellowstone park. The MYTH about wolves is that they don't kill for fun and would just rather stay away from humans. LIKE I SAID THIS IS A MYTH. I have seen BABY calves that have been chased down and killed for sport. They also do not mind getting close and making sure that you know where their territory is. I have friends that have gotten out of a wolf attack because their dogs tried to save them and their dogs were devoured right in front of them. the only reason i post on things like this is so that maybe people will learn that wolves are not pets they are not peaceful animals, and they definatly shouldn't be reintroduced to an eco-system that has been surviving without them.

You guys are weird, its just a wolf, they are a threat to our heards (bovine, sheep, etc.) If they need to be killed in order to protect our own food and income source then let it be, if they are out in the wild where they are not harmful, then let them be. But they cannot be exstinct, or illegal to shoot because there "cool". Think about the ranch mans perspective, not just the city folks.

Okay, I don't know about seeing wolves, however, protecting them is important. Also did you know that in old Native American legends, that if you see a wolf in winter, depending on the shape it's in, that will predict the outcome of your family at the end of the winter? It's true, my friend's dad saw a wolf with cuts all over and at the end of winter two of his kids had bled to death! Scary! So if wolves were protected better then maybe those to first graders would have lived...

We tried mimicking the call and eventually the wolf turned to look at us like we were pretty lame. There was hardly anyone at the zoo, so I wonder the wolves were more comfortable being themselves and not being on display.

Just as she reached to pet it, it shied away and looked at her. She then realized it was too big to be a dog and had the coloring, eyes, and feet of a wolf. She wasn't paying attention before so she didn't realize it. Anyway she went back inside slowly and shut the door. I think it didn't attack because it was just over mating season and it picked her dog for a mate for some reason.

OMG! Wolves are my absolute favorito! I have loved and cherished them since I was 2, when my mother showed me a picture of them. I love them so much, but I don't live near them. I got to a small zoo close to Ambler, Pennsylvania. I looked at the wolves for my first time when I was 8 or 9, and they looked bored and sad. I was deppresed after that, but I am still glad that they took him in. Some people at the zoo were like "Oh my god! Itz so dangerous and scary!!!" and I would be like: "Nu-uh! They are not insane, they are beautiful creatures!" And also people would be like: "Oh my god! Look at they Timber Wolf!" and another dude would be like "No, that is not a Timber Wolf, it is a Grey Wolf!" And I would scream at them :"THEYRE THE SAME!" and they would walk away with a mad face. Oh well,

That zoo day at the wolf part, I decided to name them Tomaki and Spirit Chaser. It sounded important appropriate and lovely :3

I have a Malamute dog, which is like a Husky, but bigger. Malamutes are one of the oldest breeds of dogs, and were once bred with wolves. If I didn't know that, I probably wouldn't have gotten my dog, but I'm glad I did.

here's a true story about these majestic misunderstood animals My name is paul but my buddies call me caine i am currently enlisted in the middle east with the armed forces...but i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for a timber wolf that saved my life, when i was 12 me and a couple of friends went to a camping trip in escondido thats 80 miles from palm springs calif.after dinner on the first night me and a friend of mine derek black decided to sneak out and explore the beauty of nature...being foolish kids we ventured farther away from camp and got hour past we started feeling the effects of the temperature getting colder and we we were getting weaker adn me and derek decided to rest in a spot.we were starting worried about getting hypothermia. We were in the same spot for around 2hours when i spotted a beautiful majestic timber wolf my buddy derek was starting to panic and he was staring to get loud which attracted the wolf to us but he stood approximately 10 meters from us , for some reason i didn't feel fear i just kept staring at those eyes and it may sound strange but i felt that it could read my was just standing there while my friend wet his pants with fear....something in me told me to follow the wolf and my friend thought i was insane to do so but i told him that it was either this or we could die here.So we took the risk following the timber wolf a few meters apart and 40 minutes later to our surprise we found camp,it was the strangest time of my life and i never forgot it....i never was able to thank the wolf but i never forgot him thats why i support the defenders of the wolf foundation till this day and i am totally against the hunting down of wolves in alaska! I owe my life to one of them and i would do anything to protect these great and majestic creatures.

IT WAS AMAZING. im from texas so i NEVER get to see wolves but i keep my room decorated in wolf stuff. and seeing that wolf was the highlight of my trip (which is saying something because its cool up there) GO WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S: if i had a wolf i would name it Luka, i dont know why i just think its a cool name :)

Well, not all wolves are that bad. The reason why they appear that way is because of all of the bad images that we've given them. Also, their enviroment is rapidly disappearing, so they have to be more aggressive to protect themselves in order to survive.
Rock On!

I live in Duluth in an area called Bayview Heights. I was looking out my office window when I saw what I thought was a very large dog walking down our driveway. As it got closer I realized it was a grey wolf. I was very excited and ran for my camera but by the time I returned to my window the wolf was already walking past the barn into the field and to far away to get a good pic. We see alot of droppings with hair in them and think they are wolf dropping and we hear the wolves howl occasionally but have not seen him again. :0(

I will raise my wolf packs babies to be able to survive in the wild, and then i will release them, to help with the wolf population. I will probably radio collar them too.

It just kept barking and barking outside the glass window and it kept showing it's teeth! we just kinda did our own things until we noticed that it has been barking for over 20 mins! we decide to look outside to see what it was barking at. On the bike trail a wolf was standing there and looking at the dog! It was huge! It was so cool we tool pictures of it and after seeing so much flashes it ran away. I still want to see one!

Thor says:

I know here in Minnesota, a pack of wolves will usually team up to hunt down a deer. A deer can provide a lot of food in one quick hunt. Also, the wolves can usually tell in the first three steps of the chase if they have a chance of catching the deer. If they sense the deer is too fast, they'll let it go and not waste their energy chasing something they'll probably not catch.

In June of 2009 I went the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake Minnesota.
If you've ever seen Growing Up Wolf on Animal Planet, that's where they filmed it.
The wolves Truck, Growly Pants, and Rosalyn are all still there.
The WSC also has other wolves. Probably at least ten enclosures.
It was just amazing to see all of the wolves, not to mention the wolf half-breeds.

I don't know the number of Minnesota wolves off the top of my head, but I do know that the primary food for Minnesota wolves is deer. The typical wolf will eat between 12 and 14 deer over the course of a year. Most of the time, however, that deer will be hunted down by a pack, which will share the spoils of their hunt. This is the most interesting thing, I think, about wolf/deer hunting: wolves can tell in the first three steps of the chase if they'll be able to catch the deer. If they sense they can't, they'll let it run away and save their energy for another hunt.
