I'm in high school and I get about 6-7 hours of sleep a day, sometime it would be very less then that like about 4-5 hours because of all the homework and the studying to do, but either then that I get my 6-7 hours of sleep. The people that can sleep more them 10 hours seem to be the laziest people ever, because you don't really need that much sleep at all, and not unless you got a job too or other things that is really important and that you didn't get enough sleep the other day.

I'm 15, and I usually 3-4 hours a night on the weekdays. I usually get more on the weekends because I can sleep in late.
But I just can't fall asleep before 3AM. No matter how much I try, I won't and can't fall asleep till around 3.
But I'm the most energetic, hyperactive (no I'm not ADHD), person you'll meet. I play a lot of sport, and I use to do gymnastics.
But I still only live on about 3-4 hours sleep, I don't usually feel the effects of it during the day.
Is something wrong with me?

since i babysit and then work and then braid hair and cook and clean etc..then that pretty much narrows down my sleep hours to about 5 hours a night and probably one hour during the day

I don't know about people whe get ten hours of sleep every night, but I switch between 3 to 5 hours and then randomly some nights I fall asleep and wake up 10 to 11 hours later. It all depends. During school, I sleep 9 or more hourson weekedns and far less on weekdays...

I totaly agree. Schools need to give us more time to sleep. My brain doesnt wake up untill about 10, so my morning class grades suffer at no fault of mine. Schools need to consider kids' needs.

The job of schools is to provide students with what they need to be productive adult members of society. Part of that is learning how to be awake, alert and functioning by 7 am. You're not going to have much luck holding down a job if school coddles you and reinforces your bad habits.

And keep off my lawn.

Um...I like to think that I'm occasionally a productive adult member of society. (OK, not very adult, but...) I wasn't ever an awake, alert, and functioning person by 7am until after I became a parent. Other members of my household might argue that I wasn't functional in the morning even then. The day my kids could get their own breakfast was a great day. My point is that there are plenty of jobs for which early rising is a must. There are also plenty for which your work hours are less important. And there is no way I would have learned something like, say, calculus if I'd had to take the class at 7am.

Calculus starts at 8:45 (or, at least, asymptotically approaches that point). 7:00 is when you need to get up in order to have breakfast, get dressed and catch the bus.

Turns out that both too little sleep and too much sleep are bad for you.

To quote the Bare Naked Ladies:

"Who needs sleep?
Well you're never gonna get it
Who needs sleep?
Tell me what's that for?
Who needs sleep?
Be happy with what you're gettin'
There's a guy who's been awake
Since the Second World War."

I'm a junior in high school and I get so much homework during the week (plus add in procrastination time) that I rarely go to bed before 12:30....and i get up at 6 in the morning. Because of school I have to get up way too early in the morning on school days and go to bed way too late. I positively hate schoolwork; it gives me no time to have a life!
About the sleeping more than 10 hours, I sleep 12+ hours on weekends. All the tiredness during the week makes it so I have to use weekends to catch up on sleep!

When I was working I got up at 6 and went to bed at 12. Long commute, 3 kids, lots to do! Once I retired I worried I would be awake at 6 every day! Adapted real quick though -- now get up at 8:30 or so.

Why do people feel the need to point out spelling errors? As a blog administrator I'll never figure that out - especially, as the case is here, the person pointing out the mistake more often than not make as typo themselves. People sure do love to point out other's mistakes. I wonder if there is a scientific reason why...

I sleep 6 to 8 hours a night average. If i get less then 5 hours these days I think it takes about 2 nights of GOOD sleep to get over it u_u. Until then I feel slightly groggy, clumsy, and make more mistakes in general throughout the day.
I remember "sleep overs" as a kid resulting in maybe 2 hrs sleep if I was lucky and the next day I felt fine and hyper as ever. *sigh*
