It is logical to say science and technology because this is what this website is about, but isn't just about their leadership skills to be a president?
i personally think obama will ruin america not because hes black because hes taking our rights away and its very unpredictable what will happen when he "takes our guns away." the only reason why he would do that is because he is at a high risk of being shot..... go john macain
Laurie Fink, the museum's Director of Human Biology, just posted a story I had thought about writing on just the other day. Govenor Palin recently made a dismissive statements about basic science research that doesn't bode well for science funding under a McCain / Paling administration.
I just get frustrated when people present scientific research and science education, both persistently underfunded, as examples of waste. Waste happens across the board in many areas, but it's poor rhetoric to present entire disciplines are wasteful. While this may not be the intention of the comment I think it is the public perception. Both parties are surely guilty of this sort of grandstanding, this example just stood out to me as extra frustrating.
So, the fact that waste happens in all areas is a reason to not combat waste in one particular area?
I didn't see the comment as saying that all scientific research was wasteful; merely that this particular research should be a lower priority than helping parents of special needs children. One may agree or disagree, but it is a valid argument.
Here's a link to an AP analysis of the presidential candidates' science positions. A very interesting introduction to the piece, noting both are warmer to scientific research and issues than our current president.
Even if you don't believe there are a lot of major differences between McCain and Obama, the differences between Biden and Palin are staggering. During the primary campaign Biden had one of the best outlined and researched energy and envirnomental policies of any candidate in either party. Palin's record shows she has frequently chosen to discount the results of scientific research when choosing which environmental policies to support and implement. (Even research which she commissioned.)
Since there is the possibility that a VP could be the President and since the VP should be a resource for the President, I think in matters of science Obama/Biden would have to be seen as the stronger ticket.
obama is an intellectual who advocates early childhood education and energy independence through investement in research for alternative energy. He is the right guy for the 21 st century
Simply put, both of the main-party candidates will be keeping the status quo as much as they can without appearing outright inert. Therefore, any third party candidate is going to be a better choice for progress of any sort.
In the case of science and technology, though, Ralph Nader even outshines many of his fellow third-party candidates.
I want Obama to be stronger here, but I am not sure. In Science Debate 2008 the answers from both candidates rang a little hollow to me. I guess I would say Obama because generallyhis party is the one that backs research into energy efficiency, understands the risks of global warming (instead of just saying it does not exist), and supports education - where the beginnings of both understanding and interest in science and technology begin.
McCain's position on global warming is pretty close to Obama's, leaving me disenchanted with both. The Bush administration has long acknowledged that global temperatures are rising, but have argued that the human contribution to this phenomenon is slight, and our ability to change anything is slight, especially as compared to the cost. (The merits of this position are hashed out, indetail, in numerous other threads.)
It is logical to say science and technology because this is what this website is about, but isn't just about their leadership skills to be a president?
I don't know any of their knowledge on these topics, so i voted neither. Because we need to be looking at their leadership skills.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily informed.
McCain would be a strong advocate for scientific research by supporting commerce rather than big government.
barrack is the coolest person ever that ran for office he is gonna win the presidential race

I read her comment as being more dismissive of waste or of misplaced priorities, rather than being dismissive of scientific research per se.

Mccain is pro business and industry - the best things come from the private sector which is where these things should be funded from and attended to
The more Obama does, the more taxes he'll raise.
sarah palin because she belives dinosaurs existed 4000 years ago.

This article discusses the two candidate's attitudes toward space exploration.
John McCain voted against SCHIP
obama is the best becouse he likes all that kind of stuff
Why is that? Is it because he likes things as young ones do? or Is it because he is black?
nwither candidates have anythinggoing for them and honestly i dont think there smarts in science can save this country
John McCain is the best
John McCain has proposed a lot of initiatives which will not only benefit science and technology but also society as a result.
Here's a link to an AP analysis of the presidential candidates' science positions. A very interesting introduction to the piece, noting both are warmer to scientific research and issues than our current president.
i think that obama is better for the presidency because he seems more in touch with the average person.

Obama wants alternative fuels to help us become energy independent. He will fund scientific research to help develop new technologies and new jobs.
And here is a link to Barack Obama and Joe Biden's energy policy
Obama also has a specific issue statement on science.
I couldn't find anything specific about science for McCain and Palin, but he does have a position statement on Technology and the Space Program.
It is also useful to search each candidate's website for the word science.
Obama's campaign website + science
McCain's campaign website + science
Lots of useful information there.
John McCain also supports alternative fuels and energy sources, such as wind power. He supports increased oil drilling, clean coal, and nuclear power.
John McCain's energy policy. (Link is to McCain's website.).
