Get all the dirt on compost

normanack

It might look like dirt, but these hands are holding compost created from common household wastes. Mixed in to the ground, compost adds nutrients to our soils.

Compost

How much do you think about the garbage you toss away? A little more thought along with careful sorting of our wastes can greatly reduce the amount of trash we bury in the ground. And much of that sorted waste can be turned into nutrient-rich compost that can augment the soils of our yards and gardens to give back a little bit.

Click through these pages to learn how composting works and how it can be used to make us all better stewards of our environment.

Check the case next to the wall to see composting action. Each tray shows a different stage of the composting process. Don't worry about any smell. Special filters keep any stink from getting out!!!

Is composting better than recycling? If so how or what about it makes it better? If not how or what makes it worse?

We don't compost, but composting is very good for the earth and everything living on it. It reduces waste, cleans the air, and provides nutrient rich soil to grow plants.
The reason why we don't compost is because we have not been educated enough about the importance of it.

Composing- Taking waste materials and mixing it with a component that benefits the earth.

The affect of people liotering and leaving their messes behind can actually destroy the soil that we plant to breathe air or consume our bodies.

There are many other factors that the soil we use can benefit the Earth.

Working together as a community and decreasing the amount of waste left behind the soil can afffect our future if we act right now.

A Service Learning Project must be incoporated into our community with the help of youth voices and adults contributing together and stopping the crisis.

Trash that is thrown in the museum's compost collection points is then taken outside and kept in a large compost container. Periodically, trucks come to collect those materials and take them to a commercial composting center where it's mixed in with compostable material from other businesses and turned into compost over time.

It is so cool that food can turn into dirt and maritals but it is also sad when you learn that not everyone can have something like this because of where they like. When someone lives out in the woods they can't have something like this cause it will atracct unwantesd gusts to the yard, like bears. That would not be good.

(HOPEFULLY) WE WILL DEFINITLY PUT WORMS IN THE COMPOST SO OUR CHURCH GARDEN WILL LOOK BETTER THEN EVER. OUR CHURCH GARDEN WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH THE VEGTALES AND FLOWERS IN IT. Food is a relatively small part of the overall waste generated by a household. Far more impact can be had by separating trash. But the biggest impact a person can have is to reduce garbage generated by business. Paper and cardboard are still the biggest component of business trash, and is relatively easy to handle.
