Get all the dirt on compost

normanack

It might look like dirt, but these hands are holding compost created from common household wastes. Mixed in to the ground, compost adds nutrients to our soils.

Compost

How much do you think about the garbage you toss away? A little more thought along with careful sorting of our wastes can greatly reduce the amount of trash we bury in the ground. And much of that sorted waste can be turned into nutrient-rich compost that can augment the soils of our yards and gardens to give back a little bit.

Click through these pages to learn how composting works and how it can be used to make us all better stewards of our environment.

Check the case next to the wall to see composting action. Each tray shows a different stage of the composting process. Don't worry about any smell. Special filters keep any stink from getting out!!!

Yes, especially in NORCO, California. It is almost a public nuisance to the surrounding counties, the smell carries so far. They say compost also causes global warming. But then again, so did Al Gore till he sold his company to Arab oil interests. lol! :-)

As an alternative to using a pitchfork to stir your compost you can use a turning composter that stirs the compost when you spin it.

If done correctly, compost does not stink. In very short order, tired, worn-out soil becomes rich, loamy, wonderful dirt. Our plants love it!
