Mentor program
- How long have you been mentoring?
- Just started this year.
How I use science
- How do I keep up with science and technology?
- I mostly read tons of blogs. I also have a bunch of nerdy science friends who send me emails about the latest discoveries. One of my favorite ways to stay up to date is to head out to our local Cafe Scientique program.

They bring scientists, artists, engineers, and inventors to local bars to present about their research in a much more informal manner. At the last one I went to I got to meet the man who was the first person to fly over the English Channel in a balloon.
Science LOVE vs. HATE
- I wish I knew more about
- managing a successful online web community
Biography
- I wish I were an expert in:
- Drawing comic books
Computer programming - Dream jobs:
- Reporter
Making the data visualizations at the New York Times
Education and work
- Website
- Mystery Experience
- About me
- I come from the south.
I like computers and food and candy and music.
And science.
Science in my life
- What is science to you?
- A remarkable way of looking at the world.
- I would invent
- Something to allow me to easily raise and lower my desk so that I can quickly switch between standing up and sitting down. Yes, I know this already exists, but if I invented it I would probably be able to afford it....sigh.
- Technology I love
- The internet.
- Technology that drives me crazy
- Fax machines!
- What technology do you use every day?
- Those RFID chip readers that let you in certain doors around work. They check my identity on a central computer and then decide whether to let me in or not. I kinda love that.
- What math do you use every day?
- I use lots of counting tricks in programming to make sure I've pulled the right number of items out of different databases.
