For a more accurate, and interesting, take on the Large Hadron Collider check out jgordon's post on the subject and the discussion there. As jgordon says, "The thing is, the people who would know best whether or not a supercollider is at all likely to start the apocalypse—they're they people working on the collider. And they point out the at the sort of collisions that they hope to observe in the LHC are happening all the time in space around earth, and so far earth has been okay." The likelihood that anything like this would happen is so minimal I'm more worried about Earth being eaten by a giant space squid than a problem with the LHC.
Hey man, I'm not insulting the video, or you, I just want to make sure its clear to folks that this is so unlikely it is close to an impossibility. And to direct folks to another interesting story on the subject that presents it more accurately. I am excited you are posting, I just am focused on making sure accurate science is represented. Keep posting!

Well, ok Joe! i know that to create a black whole, the experiment would have to go WAY farther than unstabble. c ya!
Well it looks like everyone can breathe easy. They've had to shut the Large Hadron Colider down til next year. Bummer, I guess we won't find the Higgs boson (aka the god particle) in 2008.
