Naturalist and artist, John James Audubon, was born April 26, 1785 in Haiti. He is best remembered for his major work, Birds of America, an enormous collection of 435 paintings, which took the artist 12 years to complete.

The Bell Museum of Natural History on the campus of the University of Minnesota currently has on exhibit some of the original prints from Audubon's rare Double Elephant Folio edition of his masterpiece.
