Pi are squared; cake are round: Photo courtesy LeJyBy at Flickr Creative CommonsToday, March 14th, is Pi Day, a celebration of the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is simply represented by the number 3.14 but with it being an irrational number, math geeks around the world mark the day impressing each other with how many numbers after the decimal point they can recite from memory. Sounds like a blast.
Pi is also a movie by Darren Aronosky and the 16th letter in the Greek alphabet.
This brought back a bit of memories for me. When I was in sixth grade, our math teacher had us bring circular desserts on Pi Day, and all we did was eat. This probably sounds very random, but it triggered it... :)
Happy Pi day to you too! I have won several contests for pi day!
happy pi day!!! y couldnt pi day just be on a monday??? Then i could have celebrated it in on of my math classes...!
In eight years, we'll have a super Pi Day as it will be 3.14 17 – with pi going out to four decimal places. Next year, sort of/kinda of, we'll have Pi Day as 3.141 (if you ignore the "0" of the year 2010).
