Male hummingbirds, trying to impress the girls, have been filmed traveling faster than fighter jets.

US researchers, using female hummingbird decoys and specialized super high-speed cameras, have recorded the swooping Romeos moving at almost 400 body lengths per second. According to Christopher Clark from the University of California Berkeley, the birds' speed, when compared in this manner, was "greater than [that] of a fighter jet with its afterburners on, or the space shuttle during atmospheric re-entry".

Talk about fast, fun and cheap. Well, fast anyway.
