According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the definition of "ice-out" is: the disappearance of ice from the surface of a body of water as a result of thawing. After the long winter we've been through it's a welcomed event, and a pretty spectacular example took place earlier today at Gooseberry Falls on the North Shore of Lake Superior. You can watch it on this video provided by the Duluth News-Tribune.
