A rare King of Herrings oarfish (Regalecus glesne) has been discovered dead off the coast of Sweden. The oarfish is the largest bony fish on earth and can grow up to 36 feet in length. We reported about one last year that was caught on camera in the Gulf of Mexico. The Swedish specimen is 12 feet long and is the first oarfish seen in the region in 130 years. It's been donated to a local aquarium to hold until someone figures out what to do with it. The above video is neither the Swedish specimen nor the one from the Gulf of Mexico but it does gives you a good idea of what an oarfish looks like.
