Out of the Philippines comes news of discovery of a new species of monitor lizard. Named Varanus bitatawa, the giant six-foot lizard has been long known by the tribal people who hunt it for food in the Sierra Madre mountains, but completely unknown to scientists - until now. Details of its discovery by researchers from the US, Philippines, and the Netherlands, appears in the journal Biology Letters.
