Saturn's moon Titan resembles Minnesota

by Anonymous on Jul. 30th, 2006

Just like Minnesota, Saturn's largest moon, Titan, has lots of lakes. This is just one of the recent discoveries made about this moon. Scientists also recently learned about Titan's wet weather and discovered what appears to be a continent on its surface.

Megan, this title was quite hilarious. I was laughing at my desk as I read it. It is cool to think of a remote moon like Titan having some resemblance to our fair state. Interestingly, they aren't totally sure that these "lakes" are even made of liquid just yet.

I should clarify that scientists are still unsure whether or not these "lakes" contain liquid, but they think it is likely. Unlike the lakes here in Minnesota, the lakes on Titan are likely composed of hydrocarbons (possibly methane or ethane), not water.

Also, according to one scientist, the terrain surrounding Titan's lakes looks a lot like parts of Minnesota, Canada, Finland and Sweden.
