It's still at the observational stage, but investigators are looking at the link between strength of garage doors and the amount of damage a home incurs from a passing tornado. After reading this Star-Tribune story, it sounds like a case of the general public connecting the dots before the scientific community.

Hopefully this research will bring about some new solutions - -but what about parts of the world without garages, cars, and other "first world" amenities?

Hey Molly

I think you may be worried about the wrong things. 8 year olds should be playing outside and coloring outside the lines.

Dear Molly's Parents,
You're turning your daughter into an uptight over-concerned adult-in-a-child's-body. Please stop.

KB, age 25.

Hey KB:
Do you enjoy calling out 8-year-olds on the Internet in such a tactless way? It seems below what I'd expect from a 25-year-old.

Tornadoes are almost exclusively a weather phenomenon of the Midwest U.S. It would be very unusual for one to happen in the tropical areas that mark Third World countries. But those areas are usually at high risk for hurricane activity.

I think it would be best to be stuck in a tsunami than a tornado.

I disagree a tornado would be better becuase it might not hit you. But a tsunami flood miles of a city. And it might kill millions.
