Watching and waiting

The river level here at downtown St. Paul has been going down since the crest on 3/30 at 19.1'. We're holding now at about 17.3', and the National Weather Service predicts that the trend will bottom out tonight at around 17.2' before the river starts rising again. We're expecting a second crest at about 19.5' on the evening of 4/10, but that prediction doesn't take into account any rain we might get later on this week. Stay tuned...

This morning, the Advanced Hydrological Prediction Service revised the crest estimate for the Mississippi River at downtown St. Paul downward. The river is now forecast to crest around noon on Monday, 4/11, at 18.8'. (That's a little more than a foot higher than it is right now: 1:03pm, Thursday, 4/7.)

But the newest prediction only takes into account expected precipitation through Friday. If we get a lot more rain than forecast on Thursday/Friday, or over the weekend, the predicted crest level will go up again.
