Lord Howe stick insectCourtesy Peter Halasz/Wikimedia CommonsOkay, so this isn't new research, but it was new to me when it popped up on NPR's website, and it might be to you as well. Take a look at these giant bugs, called Lord Howe stick insects after their island of origin or land lobsters after their unusual size, and read about their supposed extinction in the early 20th century and the remote rock they were rediscovered on in 2001.
Yep, it is kind of interesting how we hear that certain creatures are extinct but yet they end up mysteriously coming back. I will say though that if I ever saw one of these scary looking bugs in my backyard, it would definitely have to go.
When there are casino bugs that look like lobsters things can get a little creepy but then many people get creeped out by any bug that they see.
