To Hear or Not to hear

Gail and Bill have a six-year-old son, Bobby. Bobby was born deaf, as was Bill. The entire family uses sign language fluently. Doctors tell the family that a new operation can give Bobby some hearing. Gail and Bill refuse the operation. They believe deafness is not a disability to be "fixed," but rather just a way of being, like being left-handed or being colorblind.
