I love argyle. I wear the socks too. I have an argyle sweater that everyone dislikes (except me) and I can't wear v-neck because I don't have the chest for it. A guy has to have a certain chest or it doesn't hang right. I don't have it.

I guess I dye my hair to make me look different and it draws the type of attention I crave. I've had insanely curly hair my whole life and I've felt (up until the last few years) that my hair wasn't cool or current and/or edgy. I thought that my hair didn't fit my personality so by adding a crazy color like hot pink my hair could now fit better how I feel on the inside then what it presented like to the outside world. Each time I get a new crazy hair cut and color my hair it seems to lift my spirit and I feel good. I like my hair now, it just fits. =)

I bleach and dye my hair because it's an easy way to play with how I look. And, when I'm really honest with myself, I do it also because I somehow enjoy confounding people's expectations.

i am tejana y chicana! i am very proud of my mexican-american heritage. this is a photo of the guadalupe cultural arts center in san antonio where i grew up. the city is saturated with mexican and texas history everywhere one goes. i had culture shock when i moved away from san antonio, because i had to seek out my culture and also had to challenge other people's assumption about who i am.

when i feel confident enough to host a tamalada, i will. it is when all the women in the family get together and make tamales. it lasts all day long, but we have lots of men who love to cook so ours tend to be co-ed.

My Blanket Statement: I have a quilt my mother crocheted when I was a small boy. She tucked me inside a cocoon each night and it remains one of my favorite artifacts from my childhood. I carried it with me to college. It carried me through the cold nights when life became a little too difficult or my days were a little too lonely or when home was a little too far away. I gathered it around my shoulders and I lifted my legs to tuck it under my feet. It moved with me to each place that I lived and I have memories of it that might move me to tears if I gave them proper meditation. Over the years my Mother has patched it from the wear of my overuse. I still have it. I still use it. It's comfortable.

Gene says:

The old lady next door passed away last spring -- she was 93. Her family didn't want the house. They only owed about $12,000 on it -- even in this down market, they could have sold it and made a tidy profit. But they didn't want to. So they gave it back to the bank, which sold it for $28,000 to a nice young guy, ex-Marine, now studying medicine. He and his father have been fixing up the place every weekend. So, while it's good to have nice neighbors, his total price was LESS than the down payment I made on my house in 2006. So, my Zillow rating took another hit.

Don't think there have been any foreclosures on my block, but I take walks every afternoon (well, I try to), and in 2009 those orange stickers were popping up on doors all over the place.

sguberman, I agree that Piaget greatly influenced the field of developmental psychology. However personally I am a bigger fan of Lev Vygotsky's work. Did you read any of his writings when you were in school? It is interesting to me how certain contributors to the field are celebrated, shunned, forgotten, then revisited throughout history. Where and when you went to college can really affect what research you are exposed to.
