The 1952 flood was the sixth-highest on record. The Mississippi River crested that year on April 16 at 21.90 feet. (Click on the slide show to stop it or see larger images.) The seven-day forecast posted on March 23, 2011, suggests that this year's crest could be pretty comparable.

In the Spring of 1952 I was a Senior at Hastings High School. The real calamity was we couldn't get to Prescott, Wi to buy beer. As the water started down we slowly drove through the water as they say in the Navy Submarine Service, "with decks awash"
