Get all the dirt on compost

It might look like dirt, but these hands are holding compost created from common household wastes. Mixed in to the ground, compost adds nutrients to our soils.

How much do you think about the garbage you toss away? A little more thought along with careful sorting of our wastes can greatly reduce the amount of trash we bury in the ground. And much of that sorted waste can be turned into nutrient-rich compost that can augment the soils of our yards and gardens to give back a little bit.

Click through these pages to learn how composting works and how it can be used to make us all better stewards of our environment.

Check the case next to the wall to see composting action. Each tray shows a different stage of the composting process. Don't worry about any smell. Special filters keep any stink from getting out!!!

dirt is very important to live a healthy and happy life.worms are also important because they go into the process that takes about a week, and turn *compost into dirt.the process is a cycle.meaning,it goes over, and, over, and over again.this cycle has been going on for billions of years!so when you have compost, leave it to the worms! :) *compost (leaves, banana peels,excetera...)

This has been a fun project to work on and what has probably been the most interesting part was talking to lots of different people who compost and finding out how they all do it just a little bit different. There's a lot of latitude to getting good compost within the basic structure of the science that makes this all happen.
